PREPARE FOR YOUR VISIT
WHAT TO EXPECT
A quick guide to help you feel ready and relaxed
If you have never seen an osteopath before, it is totally normal to feel a bit unsure about what to expect. This short guide covers a few simple steps that will help you feel comfortable, informed, and prepared for your first session.
PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT
-
Osteopathic treatment often involves gentle movement assessments and hands-on techniques. I recommend wearing loose-fitting, stretchy clothes and removing jewellery so I can easily access the area we are treating.
For lower body injuries, shorts or leggings are ideal
For upper body issues, a sports bra is helpful (for female patients)
Avoid stiff or restrictive clothing like jeans or buttoned shirts
-
If you have recent X-rays, imaging results, or a list of current medications or supplements, please bring these along. Failing that, we can check them online. This extra info helps me understand your history and create a treatment plan that works for you.
-
It is best not to eat a large meal right before your appointment, especially if we are doing movement-based work.
-
Turning up a few minutes early gives you time to complete the intake form and settle in. A quick bathroom stop can also make the session more comfortable.
-
I will ask about your symptoms, lifestyle, and health history to get a clear picture of what is going on. The more you can share, the better I can tailor your treatment.
-
This is your time, and I want you to feel fully informed and confident. Bring any questions you have, like:
What might be causing my pain?
How does osteopathy help?
How many sessions might I need?
We can talk through everything together.
-
Drinking water before and after your session can help with recovery and reduce post-treatment soreness.
